Rolyan TailorSplint Thermoplastic Splinting Material

Rolyan TailorSplint™ is a versatile thermoplastic splinting material that provides a balance between conformability and resistance to stretch. Its moderate resistance to stretch gives clinicians good control during molding and helps prevent the material from stretching out of shape when removed from the splint bath. Its high level of conformability also allows the material to follow surface contours and provide detail when required. Performance Health

When cooled, TailorSplint forms a strong, rigid splint that is resistant to dents, cracks, and breaks. It can be used for both smaller and larger custom splints and orthoses. The material is non-toxic, latex-free, and radiolucent. Performance Health

Material Characteristics

- Resistance to Stretch: Moderate – provides controlled stretch and can be handled with moderate pressure without stretching out of shape when removed from the splint bath.

- Conformability: Moderate/Maximum – conforms to surface contours and details when force is applied, with a moderate degree of drape.

- Memory: Minimum – can be reheated and reshaped but will not return to its original shape.

- Bonding: Coated – a temporary bond can be created by pinching heated material together. A permanent bond can be formed by removing the coating through scrubbing or with a bond solvent.

- Rigidity: Moderate/Maximum (52.7 kpsi, Young’s Modulus testing value) – retains its shape without reinforcement.

- Surface: Smooth – resists fingerprints and markings when handled properly.

Heating Instructions

The recommended method is heating in hot water using a splint bath. A heat gun should only be used for spot heating and adjustments.

Overheating increases the material's draping and stretching characteristics. Allow it to cool slightly before handling to avoid excessive stretching. Performance Health

TailorSplint is intended for the fabrication of custom-molded rigid splints, orthoses, and adaptive equipment. Care & Cleaning

Store between 40–90°F (4–32°C) at less than 65% relative humidity. Avoid prolonged exposure to light, particularly ultraviolet light, as well as corrosive and ethylene oxide fumes. Formed splints should be kept away from temperatures above 135°F (57°C). Clean using soap and lukewarm water and allow the splint and straps to dry thoroughly before reapplication. Performance Health
