Rolyan Aquaplast-T™ Thermoplastic Splinting Material

Rolyan Aquaplast-T™ is a variation of the original Aquaplast™ with a water-based, non-stick coating. It combines conformability with moderate resistance to stretch, giving clinicians greater control over how much the material stretches during splint fabrication. The non-stick coating helps prevent accidental bonding. 

Aquaplast-T features 100% memory, meaning that when reheated, the material remembers its original shape and returns to it. This allows the material to be repeatedly reheated and reshaped for splint revisions. When heated, the material also becomes transparent or translucent, helping clinicians identify landmarks, positioning and pressure points during splint fabrication. 

The material is non-toxic, latex-free and radiolucent.

Handling Characteristics

- Resistance to Stretch: Moderate – Provides controlled stretch and can be handled with moderate pressure without stretching out of shape when removed from the splint bath.

- Conformability: Moderate/Maximum – Easily conforms to surface contours and details.

- Memory: 100% – When reheated, the material returns toward its original shape, allowing repeated reheating and reshaping.

- Bonding: Coated – Heated material can create a temporary bond. For a permanent bond, the coating can be removed by scrubbing or using an appropriate bond solvent.

- Thicknesses: 1/16" (1.6 mm), 3/32" (2.4 mm), 1/8" (3.2 mm)

- Perforations: 1%, 13%, 19%, 38%, 42%, or Solid

- Rigidity: Moderate/Maximum – 59.2 kpsi (Young's Modulus testing value)

- Appearance: Transparent/translucent when heated

- Surface: Coated, smooth and easier to clean 

Heating Instructions

The recommended method is heating with hot water in a splint bath. A heat gun should only be used for spot heating and adjustments. 

Overheating increases the material's draping and stretching characteristics. Allow the material to cool slightly before handling to avoid excessive stretching.

Care & Cleaning

Store between 40–90°F (4–32°C) at less than 65% relative humidity. Avoid prolonged exposure to light, particularly ultraviolet light, and avoid exposure to corrosive and ethylene oxide fumes.

Formed splints may lose their shape at temperatures above 135°F (57°C) and should be kept away from heat sources. Clean with soap and lukewarm water and allow the splint and straps to dry thoroughly before reapplication.
